- There were six candidate cities for the 10 Winter Olympics - Calgary, Canada, Grenoble, France, Lahti, Finland, Sapporo, Japan, Oslo, Norway and Lake Placid, USA.
- In January 1964 at the 61st session of the IOC in Innsbruck, Grenoble was awarded to host the 10 Winter Olympic games.
- The third round of the voting gave the following results: Grenoble - 27 votes, Calgary - 24.

- President of France Charles de Gaulle officially opened the 10 Winter Olympic games 1968.
- Winter Olympics 1968 were spread all over the French Alps and there were many different Olympic Villages because of the distance to the events.
- Jean-Claude Killy of France won all three gold medals in Alpine skiing, but only after the greatest controversy in the olympic history. Austrian Karl Schranz was the best in the slalom, but he was disqualified for missing a gate after watching of the video by referees.
- In women’s luge three athletes from East Germany, who had finished first, second and fourth, were disqualified for heating their runners.
- For the first time, gender tests for women and doping controls for all athletes were introduced.
